Advantages of Using Hydrogen as the Tracer Gas

Hydrogen is :

Environmentally Friendly & Non-Toxic

Small Molecule with High Energy

Low Cost Tracer Gas

Low Cost Sensitive Leak Detector Available

EPA's GreenChill Advanced Refrigeration Partnership program encourages grocery stores to reduce ozone depleting refrigerant agents in their refrigeration systems. It is estimated that the nations 35,000 grocery stores leak 25% of their refrigerant each year into the atmosphere. Making refrigeration systems and piping more leak tight would be a major step in the reduction of overall refrigerant losses each year in the USA.

Presently, most grocery stores use a pressure decay over time to determine the leak rate of their system. This method can determine if the store has very large leaks but cannot find the smaller leaks or the location of the leak. If a refrigerant leak detector is used, the system must first be charged with refrigerant gas. The refrigerant in the system would then have to be reclaimed before any repairs can be made.

Grocery Stores benefit in finding leaks by reducing the amount of costly refrigerant that must be replaced on an annual basis. Participation in programs like GreenChill indicate a corporate initiative to be an environmental friendly company, which customers recognize and value.

Using a 5% hydrogen/95% nitrogen (green label non-combustible) tracer gas along with the  or TLD.500 or TLD 1000 Hydrogen Leak Detector enables the user to find small leaks quickly in systems and piping then since the gas is environmentally friendly, release the gas to repair the leak with no reclaim. The cost of the 5% hydrogen/95% nitrogen is cost effective as a tracer gas.

For existing systems, we also offer a high quality refrigerant leak detector
