Locating Leaks in Underground Lines- Hydrogen Leak Detector

Underground Pipe Leak Detector
Locating Leaks Using 5% Hydrogen as the Tracer Gas

-
5% Hydrogen/95% Nitrogen is a non-combustible gas (Green Label)

- Non-Toxic totally enviromentally friendly tracer gas

- 5% Hydrogen/95% Nitrogen (5/95 Gas) is inexpensive

- Leak area can be defined within a 3 foot circular area

- TLD.500 Hydrogen Leak Detector is less than $1000

- No cross sensitivity issues to other gases- no false signals

Using a tracer gas to find underground leaks in pipes has been an option for many years. Helium has been the tracer gas of choice since mass spectrometer leak detectors had the sensitivity to find the very smallest leak rates in pipes in underground lines.

Helium disadvantages have been the lack of portability of the equipment along with cost disadvantages. Hydrogen has been more popular in the last 10 years as the leak detectors themselves are solid state, battery powered and very light to easily transport.

But even with these advantages, hydrogen leak detectors have been slow to replace traditional acoustic methods as even the less expensive hydrogen leak detectors exceeded $10,000 in cost.

But things have now changed..........

The Loktracer TLD.500 Hydrogen Leak Detector provides full sensitivity to find even the smallest leaks even under slabs or asphalt.

To use the Locktracer TLD.500

  • Mount the Loktracer TLD.500 on a stick or pole using something as simple as Velcro

  • Connect the earphone jack and use the provided chord and jack to detect leak signals

  • Pressurize the leaking line or pipe with the 5% nitrogen /95% nitrogen

  • Walk the length of the line, probing the ground at 2 ft. intervals

  • Mark where the signal is strongest and dig within a 3 foot circle

Total Cost to Implement the Loktracer TLD.500 is less than $1000.
