Production Leak Detection Systems
Leak Checking of parts or sub-systems can be accomplished with a variety of methods including, pressure decay, vacuum decay, bubble testing, helium sniffing, hydrogen sniffing and vacuum leak checking using helium. As with other methods, the type technology used can depend on the size of the leak.

The cost of automated systems can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Less expensive systems can be manufactured with less automation. Our aim is to target applications that require these type applications. If your budget or needs do not require large scale automation, we can assist.

Technology

One basic fundamental of leak checking is that the pressure greatly affects the size of a leak. We recommend that the test pressure of the object be equal to the pressure of the object or system in use. This allows pressure to be taken out as a variable. Below is a good lesson in leak detection that we recommend should you want to learn more specific information about the technical aspects.

Leak Detection Fundamentals

On this page, we will attempt to provide some general system examples for consideration:

Pressure Decay Applications

Pressure decay applications for production applications can be developed inexpensively compared to more complex  leak detection testing systems. This system can be as simple as an operator charging the object to the tested, then initiate testing using the Pressure Decay Leak Detector. Sometimes there is tooling or fixtures required to help automate the system. Below are the product information for the Zaxis Pressure Decay Leak Detector and the Nolek Charging System.

Helium or Hydrogen Sniffing

Helium or hydrogen leak detection can be automated for production. If the chamber volume is not much bigger than the part or if very fine leak detection is not required, helium or hydrogen sniffers may be able to
sniff the chamber to determine if the tracer gas is leaking from the part into the chamber. An example using hydrogen leak testing the leak integrity of a bubble pack used in medical applications is below.

Vacuum Leak Testing

Small scale production can be accomplished by leak checking using a helium leak detector and a Nolek Charging System to input the test gas into the object. Applications include leak checking of gas tanks, air bag actuators, valves and many others.
